When the airport hotels are full: still booking a Schiphol hotel massage on a crowded night
A few nights a year, every hotel near the terminal is sold out. A storm grounds flights in the afternoon, a strike stops the trains, or a large event in the city sends its overflow to the airport. Guests left without a room near the runways can still have a session, as long as the room they end up in is one that can be reached.
First, a room
A session needs a room, and on a full night that is the hard part. Ask the airline desk whether it is placing passengers in hotels, ask your own hotel whether it has a sister building with space, and look further out than you normally would. Do not write to the thread until you have a confirmed room, or at least its name; nothing can be planned around a room that may not exist.
Rooms that still work
Any hotel inside the area can be visited: the business parks of Schiphol-Rijk and Schiphol-Oost, the shuttle hotels within the airport grounds, and every hotel in central Amsterdam. A city room is often the easiest to find on a crowded airport night, and the train into town runs late. There the arrival is forty to sixty minutes after the booking is confirmed. Rooms that do not
A hotel in a town beyond the airport grounds cannot be visited, however convenient the airline makes it sound. Nor can a transit room behind passport control, or a sleeping area in the terminal itself. A camp bed in a departures hall is not a room, and nobody can bring a session to it.
If you had already booked
If the session was booked for a room near the terminal and you have now lost that room, tell the thread straight away with the new building's name. If it is inside the area, the reply re-plans her journey and the start. If it is not, or if you have no room at all, the booking follows the notice scale on the cancellation page. A cancelled flight counts as a change on your side, not as force majeure; an official instruction that makes the journey itself impossible would turn the deposit into credit instead.
On crowded nights, write early
When the hotels fill, the roster is busy too. Write as soon as you have a room, with its name, the hour and the length, and be ready to take a start a little later than you would like. Half the fee goes ahead for an airport room, and a city room booked on the day carries it too when it is your first booking with the house.
