A Schiphol hotel massage on the executive floor of an airport hotel
Many of the larger hotels around the terminal keep their upper floors for guests on a higher rate or a loyalty tier: a lounge with evening drinks and an early breakfast, slightly larger rooms, and a lift that will not stop at those floors unless the right card is tapped. A visit there works like any other, with one or two adjustments.
The lift that only goes up for you
The defining feature of an executive floor is access. Your key card unlocks the floor's button in the lift, and nobody else's does. A visitor riding up alone will see the button refuse her. The fix is simple and always the same: be at the lift lobby on the ground floor when she arrives, ride up together, and walk her to the room. Tell the thread that the room is on a club floor so she expects to meet you downstairs.
Timing around the lounge
Club lounges usually serve drinks and small plates for a couple of hours in the early evening, and close after that. If you want to use it, go before the session rather than after, keep it to a drink and something light, and leave a comfortable gap before the start. Afterwards, the lounge will often be shut, and room service is the better plan for food.
Larger rooms, better bathrooms
Rooms on these floors tend to have more space beside the bed and a bathroom with a walk-in shower or a bath, which widens the choice of format. A booking with two therapists, a couple, or a session of nuru or soapy massage is more likely to fit here than in a standard room. The guide to airport room types compares the categories, and the bathroom comparison covers which format needs which.
Quiet by design
Executive floors are often the quietest in the building. Fewer rooms share the corridor, groups are rarely placed there, and the lifts bring only guests who belong. For a slow session, that calm is the main advantage. It also means sounds in the corridor are noticed more, so keep the greeting at the door brief.
The lounge the next morning
If the session runs late, the lounge breakfast the following day is a calm place to eat before the flight, usually quieter than the main restaurant downstairs. Allow for its opening hour when you set the alarm, and ask about the express check-out many club floors offer, which spares you the queue at the desk on the way to departures.
Upgrades at the desk
A guest with loyalty status is sometimes upgraded at check-in. If that happens after you have booked, send the new room number and mention that it is on a club floor. Nothing else about the booking changes: the figure is the one on her profile, and half goes ahead once the start and her journey are agreed, as for every room near the airport.
